Planning Your Arrival and Departure from Walton Elementary
 
Arriving to Walton Elementary Departing from Walton Elementary
Registrations are completed from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily Monday through Friday. Appointments are required. Please call the school to schedule an appointment. (804) 733-2750Please make sure you have all necessary documentation to register your student.
Documents Needed:
  • Student’s original certified state issued birth certificate
  • Proof of residency – this can be an electric, gas, or water bill showing usage within the last 30 days or a dead, lease, or rental agreement 
  • School Health Information Form – the school physical form is available  online at the Virginia Department of Education’s websiteOpens in a new browser tab
* This form should be completed by your child’s physician and should include proof of adequate age-appropriate immunization
  • Court issued custody papers – if applicable.
  • Foster care information form – if applicable.
  • Previous school records including Individual Education Plans (IEP) or 504's – if applicable.

Please notify the school as soon as possible of your departure date!You can ask to speak with the registration clerk to request paperwork. Final grades and departing documents (report card and or interim, shots, physical, birth certificate, withdraw form, IEP or 504 if applicable) are provided to the parent(s) during the withdraw process.Any other documents are requested from the receiving school upon enrollment.

Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Families

What is the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children? 

The Department of Defense, in collaboration with the National Center for Interstate Compacts and the Council of State Governments has developed an interstate compact that addresses the educational transition issues of children of military families.  The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children is a law that has been adopted by all 50 states and Department of Defense Educational Activity (DoDEA schools). The law applies to the receiving state. To exercise provisions, parents must be on active military orders. This does not extend to Department of Defense (DoD) civilians or DoD contractors.

What are School Liaison Officers (SLO)? 

Each Branch of Service has a DoD employee who is either a School Liaison Officer or a POC who fulfills the role. School Liaison Officers serve as the primary point of contact for school-related matters; represents, informs, and assists Command; assists military families with school issues; coordinates with local school systems; and forges partnerships between the military and schools.
